FHNN volunteers help our Full Members with everyday tasks that can become difficult to manage later in life. They also provide critical assistance in helping to run FHNN.
They bring more than just help—they bring connection. Their presence eases the isolation that often comes with aging. Many of our volunteers say that it's a very rewarding experience and that they make friends along the way.
"I sometimes think I get as much out of volunteering as those I help." —Linda, FHNN volunteer
Bob has volunteered with FHNN since 2023. He enjoys giving members rides to doctors' appointments and talking with them along the way.
Margit (right) is a long-time FHNN volunteer. She has helped Elly for many years, and they consider each other good friends. Elly has vision problems, and Margit reads to her, organizes her mail, and helps out with technology.
Hazel likes to visit our members and enjoys talking with them. She's also happy to pitch in at our social events, helping to set up and serve food.
Nancy has been a long time member of FHNN. She serves by being an FHNN Board Member and helping out at events. Here she is offering information about membership with FHNN at our annual fundraiser.
Jim is a relatively new volunteer and is always ready to lend a hand, whether it's giving rides, stuffing envelopes, or party planning. He even brought chicken soup to a member who was recovering from a cold.
Linda has been at FHNN since its inception. She's fulfilled most types of service requests, including picking up prescriptions, organizing mail, and grocery shopping. She'll even serve up a slice of pizza!
Just because you're the FHNN President doesn't mean you stop volunteering. A lawyer by training, Evan also gives rides to a member so she can go to the hair salon regularly. He often checks in on neighbors and can even fix (simple) plumbing problems.
No FHNN volunteer list would be complete without mentioning our Crafts & Chat affinity group. Each year, these special ladies make and donate dozens of knitted toys, blankets, and hand muffs. And they have fun doing it too!
Cary is on staff and serves as FHNN's Member Services Manager. Cary receives requests from our Full Members for services and matches them with willing volunteers. He'll even give rides too, if no volunteer is available. He does this with a calm disposition, a big heart, and the occasional pun.
“I love you guys! I couldn’t get by without you.” —Mari, age 92, Full Member
